We need to talk! CLICK TO WATCH JO's PERSONAL MESSAGE TO YOU
About promos, discounts and the giveaway culture and including a word around Black Friday. Bear with it and stay with me to the end if you can!
So, regarding Black Friday. I'm just going to put it out there right now that we will not be engaging in Black Friday promotions. It is something that we don't resonate with.
I think most of you here would agree, we are a heart led business, founded on passion and integrity. We are passionate about what we do, and about serving you.
We work hard on curating our product mix and we always try to find the best quality products at the best price.
We are a customer first business. We've always got you at the forefront of our decision-making.
We're a service first business and try to go above and beyond.
We give our heart and soul to this, this, like many other small businesses. And it wont be a surprise to hear that it's a hard time for us.
And for all small businesses. The high streets are quiet, shoppers are just not coming out like they used to. The digital world has advanced and is so slick. And the marketing is so effective, that people are shopping in so many other places and in so many other ways. The competition for every pound is fierce.
We just don't have the budget, the know how, the people power, time or the tech to compete.
Nor do we want to compete on this ‘numbers game’ focused on volume, sales over relationships. I think most people see through all this and know that their often being duped, discounting is either built into the pricing, or that cheap things have been bought in to just run a promotion that it's not genuine.
As a small business, I think I've expressed that our prices are fair, the margins are narrow, our overheads are high and there just isn't the room for running these sort of promotions at a loss.
If we buy into this, we simply wont survive.
Maybe it's just nostalgia, longing for the past, a way of life that's gone for good, maybe we just have to put our hands up and say that we can't compete, but we know, 100%, that so many of you value who we are, what we do, what we stand for.
The value and the service that we provide and this goes for all small businesses, I'm not just speaking for us. I'm speaking for all of us, small solo brands, artists and makers, high street businesses, independents, local businesses, we are an integral part of the community and the local economy. so we're asking for you to give back to us.
Vote with your feet. Shop small. Shop local and Support Indies!

Hi Jo, I totally agree with everything you’ve said. Sadly online shopping is killing the high street and I’d be heartbroken if you were to go too. I have shopped with you since 1986 when I first moved to Leighton Buzzard and now that I live in Cornwall it gives me such a thrill to visit and purchase that special item.
You have my total support and I shall be popping in, as usual on my next trip up.
Best wishes, Pauline.
